SCRAPBOOK

DIVISION IX

Division IX Archives

James Wood, DCP IX

Division IX is geographically the largest in the Eleventh District covering the Colorado River from Parker, Arizona to Page, Arizona. This means a lot of travel for most of the members and they are to be commended for it. The Division is doing well this year in spite of the desert heat. Our Patrols are being filled almost every week end with assists to many stranded boaters. Our Public Education Course enrollees have increased by fifty percent, and all flotillas are planning Fall courses. Our CE’s are down a little but should pick up as the weather cools off. We had a very successful Safe Boating Week possibly the best Division IX has ever had thanks to PRCO(A) Art Whitman and Louis Schlotter, SO/PR IX.

Our membership is growing at a good rate approximately 15% this year. Iam proud to be Acting Captain of Division IX and be associated with such a fine bunch of dedicated Auxiliarists.

THOMAS K. BROWN

On Friday the 31st of August, Thomas K. Brown, member of Flotilla 90, died in the muddy waters of Lake Mojave under a brilliant desert sun. That his untimely death was a tragedy cannot be denied. To Gwen, his grieving wife, we extend our deepest sympathy. But nothing we could say would assuage her grief and heartache. Only the passage of time can accomplish this.

"T.K." Brown held offices as Vice Captain of Division V, Captain of Division IX. He served on the District Staff as Courtesy Examination Officer and on the National Staff as Chief, Department of Operations. He was named "Auxiliarist of the Year" in 1964.

"T.K." was a good man; an honest and knowledgeable man. He gave of himself unselfishly and enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
