NOTES

The Inland area became so large that it was deemed necessary to split up into Division IX and a new Division X. This was an amazing period of growth in the Auxiliary with thousands of manhours of help to the Coast Guard and the Boating Safety Program donated by our fine volunteers.

FLOTILLA 92

Lake Havasu Herald, January 8, 1970

Jury Utkin recently was installed as Commander of Flotilla 92, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for Lake Havasu City. Left to right are Lcdr. Charles Gailey of the U.S. Coast Guard and director of Auxiliary; T.K. Brown, captain-elect of the 9th Division; Utkin; and Hank Menke, outgoing Commander.

Lake Havasu Herald, April , 1970

Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 92 members Dean Rowe and Ron Brill came to the rescue of San Bernardino Deputies when their boat swamped in the waves April 9. Deputies had left Havasu Landing in an effort to rescue occupants of a ski boat and canoe. There were no casualties. The initial call came from Redlands Marine identified as KQX 5253 indicating that a ski boat and a canoe had swamped in the heavy seas off Windsor Ramp. San Bernardino Sheriff's Deputies responded from Havasu Landing but their boat encountered high waves and swamped. They were towed to Windsor Ramp by Coast Guard Auxiliarymen Ron Brill and Dean Rowe. At the scene, the ski boat had sunk but the occupants were very wet, but OK. The rescued boaters and deputies were returned to Havasu Landing by the Auxiliary Coast Guard.

Flotilla Officers Win

Certificate of Merit

Lcdr. Charles Gailey, Jr. of the United States Coast Guard presented the Certificate of Merit to Ron Brill and Jury Utkin. Utkin is the commander of Flotilla 92, US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Brill is the vice commander. Lcdr. Gailey pointed out that "citations like this are truly rewarding to the recipients and indicate the services that Auxiliarists offer to the boating public.

Citation

On 7 September 1968, at Lake Havasu, you heard a radio call concerning a burning boat. You immediately proceeded to the scene and found a 20-foot I/O boat burning and adrift. With the help of another Auxiliarist who had heard the distress call, the fire was extinguished before the fuel tanks could explode. The boat was then towed ashore for salvage at the request of the owner.
